The Efficiency of Lingual Orthodontics in Open-Bite Treatment: Case Reports

Purpose: This article reveal the effect of lingual orthodontics in open-bite treatment and retention.
Methods: Three adult cases showing anterior open-bite with tongue thrusting habit are treated with lingual brackets and compared with the need of inter-maxillary elastics and incisal positions.
Results: No inter-maxillary elastics are used at all to close anterior open-bite and intrusions of incisal teeth are observed in all of the cases. No special retainers except wrap-around retainer are necessary at retention period with well retained incisal positions.
Conclusion: To the contrary of general concepts, lingual orthodontics is a very useful method to treat anterior openbite treatment.
